Well here is one way to avoid the kind of public relations nightmare the city of Dallas has endured over its efforts to rename Industrial Boulevard. Ask for public input, after you narrow the possible names down to one.
That’s what the North Texas Tollway Authority has done as it weighs what to call State Highway 121. At a committee meeting Wednesday, board members settled on two possible monikers for State Highway 121: the Sam Rayburn Tollway or the Interurban Tollway.
The full board will pick a winner Oct. 15, and then will ask for public comments. Spokeswoman Sherita Coffelt said the agency will send letters to cities served by the NTTA and ask for input on its choice, but barring a big negative reaction will likely stick with the decision made on the 15th.
“If there somehow are huge valid concerns that we didn’t know about, then we reserve the right to reconsider,” she said.
